Parenting issues during the baby's first days at homeYou would be emotionally and physically worn out. But don't be carried away by those "baby blues" - they're normal parenting issues you must tackle. You might lack energy, good sleep or even feel depressed. Or you might end up with insomnia, weight gain from overeating, weight loss from not eating enough, being overly worried about your baby, etc. A lot of these reactions are perfectly normal and ok. Just give your body some time to adjust to those hormonal changes happening after the baby's birth. Consult your doctor if you feel you need more help, particularly if you find yourself getting increasingly depressed or lackadaisical. If that's the case, you might be suffering from a condition called post-partum depression. You need to be patient enough to adjust between your family and your new responsibilities. Apart from close relatives and friends, it would be wise to restrict visitors coming and wanting to hold the baby. Find time to relax between those busy schedules. First few days would be really exhausting for you to adjust to the baby's daily activities. In a couple of weeks you would get used to it. If there are other older children they would find a bit jealous at the new baby's arrival. You need to give attention to them as well or they would feel ignored. Encourage them to help in changing diapers, feeding or just holding the baby if they are old enough to do so. This way they would be interested in looking after the day-to-day activities of the baby. Use common sense in dealing with all parenting issues.
